Like many others, I'm blessed to have been born in America â to an immigrant parent. My mother came to the United States as a teenager after fleeing the Iranian Revolution. She arrived at 16, unable to speak any English, yet education became the bridge that allowed her to adapt, assimilate, and build a stable career and life.
Growing up as a first-generation American, I saw early on that education mattered. What became even clearer over time was that access to the right kind of education mattered more. For years, I followed the traditional script: Ivy League degrees, credentials, prestige, believing that success meant playing the game exactly as it was laid out.
